Bruce Thierry Cheung is a cinematographer and director based in Los Angeles. His most recent film as cinematographer, Drifter, directed by Sung Kang, premieres at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival in the Discovery program. He has shot narrative features, television, and documentary work, collaborating with directors including Andrew Ahn, Atsuko Hirayanagi, Duncan Birmingham, Jeffrey Gee Chin, Mary Pat Bentel, Pamela Romanowsky, Gabrielle Demeestere, James Franco, and Summer Shelton. His work has premiered at the Sundance, Venice, and Tribeca film festivals and been distributed by A24, Amazon, and SundanceTV.

He trained in architecture at UC Berkeley and film at NYU, and his images are drawn to texture, atmosphere, and the emotional weather of a place. Away from the camera, he directs and writes his own work: his debut feature Don’t Come Back from the Moon was a New York Times Critics’ Pick, and he is currently directing the animated documentary Summers of Madness, with support from the Ford Foundation and Film Forum, and writing his first novel, Ash Bone Coal Stone.
